Ipod maintenance screen
Nov3Difficulty:

Today my Ipod got wounded. A big stitchy line of stuck pixels in the middle of the screen. The difference between a stuck and a dead pixel, is that a stuck pixel can have every color (including white and grey) and a dead pixel has none. (so black).
There are a few solutions to heal your Ipod doing by yourself. Unluckily I’m no good doctor so I’ll have to visit the Apple store anyways but at least it was worth the try.
Reset your Ipod: Hold down the middle button and the menu button for 5 to 8 seconds.
When the “Apple” icon appears, quickly press and hold the middle button and the back button.
The screen should flash white.
Now you’ll open the maintenance screen. You can walk through the options just like how it should be. – with the scroll wheel.
When you select auto settings, your Ipod will set/calibrate/test and everything else all by itself. Note that you need your headphones and your USB cable for some of the test. (without, you can’t go on auto testing, and shutting down needs another reset.)
When you select the manual settings, you can configure everything by yourself.
Now there is a tool for testing your display (IO > Display), and this could fix your stuck pixels.
Your Ipod will render all different kind of colored screens, and you have to press (0.75 sec interval) the middle button to walk through all.
Like I said, it did not work for me (yet). But I should give it another try…
